Hey guys, so Trellie, Scott and I have been tasked with getting together a Auburn/Purple style Predator for our friend Emma in the states. Then I suggested a red one and after some concepts she accepted the idea.

I have to admit it the Red concept with gold was far better than the original intended idea as Auburn and Purple would have been... I don't know, for me there would have been a lack of appeal, then again that's because I like stronger more emphasized colors.

This is simply amazing. Question: in your Huntress head sculpt do you try to make the jawline and mandibles slightly smaller as it's a female?

Pete Mander sculpted the huntress head. The mandibles are actually bigger and more defining than the males. That's more in tune with the 'reptile' female being larger than the male and having more definitive features. Seeing as the Predator is reptile/humanoid I believe when Pete was creating the head he wanted key areas such as the jaw/teeth and crown to show that it was female. But its up to interpretation.

That makes sense Wreav. Now that I'm looking closer it seems the crown of the head is a bit smaller but then the person inside as a female will *usually* be smaller naturally. I'm an average 5'5" but in my platforms (what my hubby refers to as my monster shoes) I'm easily 6". I have big shoulders too so some of the men's armor pieces from bought costumes might work. I'm leaning towards making my own out of leather though.

While in some species of reptile that is the case (for instance most snakes), the general rule is that males are still larger than their female counterparts in most species of reptiles.
Still love the design, but as a reptile enthusiast that needed correcting :D

My male iguanas were 2 to 3 sizes larger than females of the same age. Monitor lizards are also like that. It's the opposite with Anacondas but I don't know if that is true of all snake breeds.

Thinking on it, male caymen, alligators, and crocs are also larger than their mates. But seems there is no hard and fast rule in the reptile world.

I thought female snakes were bigger than the males because through evolution and the ability to carry neonates/eggs (Indiana Jones). Then again I haven't studied the animal kingdom in a very long time. I do remember Lizards, Snakes, Tortoises males were usually larger than the females.

Lizards, Tortoises, and crocodilians. But yes in snakes it is more likely to be the case that females outsize males.

Aren't crocs oversized lizards? Or am I being mistaken with Alligators. See when I was little we use to call lizards 'Alee' as I grew up I always thought they were little Alligators.

Monitors and Tegus would be oversized lizards. Crocodilians are a separate order. :)
